About This Cause
The vision and burden of the Council of Evangelical Churches are to reach the unreached people of Honduras with the gospel of Jesus Christ by evangelizing, planting churches, and making disciples among their native countrymen.
Since 1977, they have planted 85 churches throughout the country. These churches have arisen despite the challenge of the constant migration of workers to other countries to obtain secure jobs. The pastors of these churches also do “circuit” visits and hold seminars. They put forth a special effort to reach and disciple the children and youth of the area since they are the future of the Honduran Church. The ministry purposefully aims to bring this next generation to the feet of Jesus.
The ministry also focuses on self-sustainment opportunities for the pastors and their families. The average pastor makes far below the average $200/month that a day laborer would make in Honduras. One example is a sewing center in Los Rincones, which teaches women from the area to be a seamstress to provide for their families. Hundreds of women have been equipped through this work. They have come to Christ through the Bible discussions and conferences held by the pastor and his wife.
One of the greatest needs for these pastors is a liveable wage and transportation such as bicycles to reach multiple churches. Another great need is for funds for simple medications and treatments for the pastors.
