They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and that’s exactly what World Photography Week captures.
Indian photography teacher O.P. Sharma organized the first World Photography Day in 1991. Now, thanks to the investment of other international photographers, a million people have tagged #WorldPhotographyDay on social media and the phenomenon is a week long.
We’re celebrating World Photography Week with the photos of Ian Christmann, a portrait, commercial, advertising, and advocacy photographer who has joined several trips to the ANM mission field. He captures the truth and beauty of mission fields in Uganda, Mexico, and Rwanda.
Children’s Ministry in Uganda

This Christian school in Uganda aims to share the Gospel and show students that they can do anything, including develop computer skills.

Cooking for hundreds of children leaves an aroma in the air.

The joy of a clean plate.

Native missionaries will touch more lives than they can imagine.

No matter where we are in the world, children are the future.
Youth Camp in Mexico

A church youth camp in Mexico with American youth volunteers proves the world is smaller than we think.

God designed us to play.

The Gospel has no language barriers.

A hug that will last into eternity.
Empowering Women in Rwanda

A native missionary gave out microloans so women like this could start their own businesses.

Female entrepreneurs are changing lives in their families and communities.

Sometimes hope is a sewing machine.

Feeding her neighbors to feed her children.

Joy in a financial and spiritual support group.
Ian’s photographs promote photography as an artform, document and preserve culture, and educate us on how photographs make an impact, which is the point of World Photography Day and Week. We’re honored to have him on the mission field with us, preserving a visual record of native missions worldwide.
