The Challenge of Reaching the Remaining Unreached: Three Critical Questions
The challenge of missions is to first feel the heartbeat of the Father for the nations. What is God’s vision for the indigenous peoples of this world whom He has given as an inheritance to His Son (Psalm 2:7-8)?
Secondly, we must ask ourselves what God’s strategy is for reaching the remaining unreached. In so doing, we come to understand how God, in His sovereignty, has chosen to use native missionaries to reach these people groups in our day.
Finally, we must decide how God has called us to respond to His work. Our joyful obedience and partnership with indigenous ministries will help us see Christ’s command to disciple the nations (Matthew 28:18-20) become a reality.
These three questions and their answers not only form the foundation for facing the challenge of missions in the 21st Century, but they also provide the biblical context for everything we do at Advancing Native Missions.
In Isaiah 49:6, God issues a startling challenge to His people. “Your vision is too small” is the essence of Isaiah’s prophetic revelation. This challenge applies equally to the Church today as we prayerfully consider what God is doing and how we are to respond obediently to His call to reach and disciple the remaining unreached. Throughout Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, God has revealed His heart for the nations and His saving grace for the peoples of the world. In Genesis 12:1-3, Abraham is called to become the father of many nations. He is promised by God that, through his family, all the families of the earth will be blessed. The ultimate fulfillment of this promise is found in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Jesus renewed this promise for the Church in His Great Commission, and the Apostle John saw its fulfillment in that great vision of heaven in Revelation 7:9-10.
At ANM, we pray that our vision continues in sync with God’s global vision for the nations. Our commitment is to remain a faithful bridge of partnership between churches and believers in North America and indigenous ministries around the world, to the glory of God.
